Background

Monaco is well known for operating a beneficial tax regime for resident individuals and companies.However, it is not fully tax free and this note summarises the principal direct and indirect taxes leviedin the Principality.

Individuals

Monaco resident individuals* are not required to pay tax on worldwide income, capital gains or wealth tax. Although, inheritance and gift taxes are levied at modest rates (a top rate of 16%). Gifts to immediate family are tax free. (*Except certain French nationals.)

Property Taxes

There is no property tax on the owners or the occupiers of property in Monaco, however registration tax is due on the transfer of real estate in the Principality.
